Counterfeit Products Can Be Extremely Dangerous
The internet is awash with counterfeit handbags, jewelry and sunglasses that won’t do harm to anything but your wallet and reputation. On the other hand, counterfeit body armor can give you a false sense of security that puts your life at risk. The Counterfeit Report monitors fake products being sold in the United States to create awareness for consumers. For example, on November 14th they posted a report about counterpoint “Point Blank” body armor that was sold at a West Palm Beach, Florida gun show that was found to have no ballistic protection whatsoever. The most frightening aspect is that the fake body armor was sold in person and was indistinguishable from the real product to anybody but an expert.
Not Everything Being Sold As Body Armor Offers Ballistic Protection
The increased interest in body armor from consumers is driving sales of many types of body armor that don’t provide any ballistic protection. These are not counterfeit products, but their price points should provide a big hint that they are not ballistic protection vests. For example, one of the first listings for body armor is for a “body armor” vest intended to protect dirt bike riders and skiers from wipeouts for $49. The next listing is for a GFIRE tactical vest for $65.95 that doesn’t not come with any plates or armor. The product could be legitimate, but it doesn’t clarify that it doesn’t offer any ballistic protection without expensive upgrades. There was even a product that looks like body armor that was intended only to be used for workout training that costs $139 and the plates are not included.
How A Body Armor Specialist Can Help You
When you buy armor from an online or in person dealer with expertise you can be sure of getting the right protection for your needs and budget. For example, you just opened a jewelry store in a high crime neighborhood and are considering body armor for you and your salespeople to wear in the store. A body armor specialist at an online or in person store can help you choose the right vest for you and your employees. Jewelry store employees must wear concealed vests as the threat of crime is not something you want your customers to be aware of while in your store. This means the vests must be light and flexible enough to make this possible. Heat build up is also a factor to consider, especially if you’re required to wear Covid-19 facemasks, too. The biggest mistake people make with body armor is wanting the most protection possible without taking comfort into consideration. Cost is also an important consideration. The highest quality vests tend to be lighter, more flexible, but also more expensive. Hunters that only have time to go out a couple of weeks each year might not want to spend the money to get the best vest out there, when a less expensive model will give them the protection they need at a much lower price. It’s a mistake to think that reading a few articles is a substitute for a chat with an experienced body armor specialist.
